Enterprise Agile

Branding, illustration, book design, collaboration, project management

In 2020, I was tasked with rebranding and redesigning the ninth edition of BJSS Enterprise Agile – a guide to predictable and efficient use of agile techniques for delivery of change and service to technology-led products. Enterprise Agile was devised in 2010 by BJSS practitioners from experience on hundreds of successful deliveries, and between 2010 and 2020 there were eight editions of the book, and it went through several redesigns. In 2020, BJSS decided that the latest version was tired and needed modernising.

I collaborated with a creative agency to develop a new logo and visual identity for Enterprise Agile. The agency provided brand guidelines and artwork for the book cover – a 3D graphic that represents the never-ending aspect of agile methodology, emphasising  continuous improvement and adaptation to changing needs throughout the project lifecycle, rather than a fixed, linear approach.

Following the new brand guidelines, I defined an illustration style and then recreated the diagrams from the previous book. I overhauled these aesthetically, and challenged them from a non-technical perspective, to make them more accessible and digestible.

Alongside this, I worked with the content team whilst they revised and updated the previous book text.

I meticulously created the book in Adobe InDesign, with the book totalling 320 pages. I used the brand guidelines creatively – I created gradients for chapter pages and table styling and placed diagrams on navy blue pages to make them visually striking. I also designed a book bin for each of the BJSS offices, so that anyone could grab a copy.

My ninth edition of Enterprise Agile was published in 2022, and in 2023 I created a revised tenth edition.

Alongside the book, I created a webpage and campaign assets, and designed a series of eight white papers, Enterprise Agile: In Action, to bring the insights and methods described in the book to life.
